Was Sarah Everard killed due to over-zealous regulation by government?

The murder of Sarah Everard highlights the real problem that puts every member of society at risk. Sarah complied with a demand from an authority figure. One she had been taught to trust and obey without question, as have we all.

She believed that she had broken the Covid restrictions and was being arrested on those grounds. Few people actually knew exactly what those regulations meant that they could or could not do and everyone who didn’t became vulnerable to police bullying or worse, was prosecuted because neither the police nor the Crown Prosecution Service fully understood the issues involved.

How then could any individual with no legal training be expected to understand their rights or indeed, obligations when our laws are so bureaucratic that the experts struggle with them and when the flow of criminalising legislation never seems to end?

Over-regulation that leaves everyone at the mercy of whoever claims authority is the tool of a police state. It has no place in a democracy. Unless our laws are reviewed as a matter of urgency we will see far more cases where people have been taken advantage of simlpy because there is absolutely no way of knowing who has authority and what that authority consists of.
